Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional T20 cricket league and it is a world biggest cricket league. It was started in the year 2008 and IPL was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the idea of IPL came from Lalit Modi and he ran IPL until 2010. He was the former founder and commissioner of Indian Premier League. IPL is the biggest cricketing league in the world in terms of players which are playing in the league and also in terms of prize money given to the winner and runner up.
All the teams are named after the different cities of India. The IPL has completed 10 seasons in 2018 and the 11th season has already started in March 2019. Players from all the cricketing nations play together in all the team according to their selections and they selected by the owners of all the teams through an auction. Only players from Pakistan cricket team are not allowed to play in IPL after 2011 due to some serious issues.
Foundation:
On 13th of September 2007, the BCCI announced franchise based T-twenty cricket tournament, Indian Premier League whose the first season was to start on April 2008 and the idea of IPL came from Lalit Modi. Lalit Modi was the vice president of BCCI at that time. In a ceremony, he detailed all the information about the format, prize money, teams, which were, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Banglore Royal Challengers, Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Franchise revenue system and all and it was also said that the top two teams of IPL of every edition will qualify for Champions League Twenty20.
To decide the owner of the new league and auction was held on January 2008 with the total base prices of franchise around $400 million. At the end owners were announced and also the would be teams. When it started it became an instant success and later In 2010, the IPL became the first cricket league in the world to be broadcast live on YouTube. The brand value of the IPL in 2018 was US$6.3 billion, according to Duff and Phelps and according to the BCCI, IPL has contributed 12,543.5 billion to the GDP of the Indian economy.
In 2009, Due to the General Election, the Government of India refused to provide security, as a result, the BCCI decided that IPL was to be held in South Africa. Deccan charges won that season.
Lalit Modi
Lalit Modi was an Indian businessman and cricket administrator and also a vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was suspended by the BCCI due to financial irregularities. After the investigation by BCCI, he was banned for life in 2013 as committee found him guilty and after that Lalit Modi moved to London (England).
Teams and Format:
The IPL format is like eight teams play two matches together means each team will play two matches with each team one match at home and one away in league phase and the end of the league phase top four teams will qualify for playoffs. The top two teams from league stage will play the first qualifying match with each other and the winner will go directly to IPL final and the loser will get another chance to qualify for the final by playing the second qualifying match. The third and fourth teams from league phase will play in an eliminator match and the winner of this match will play the second qualifying match with the loser of the first qualifying match and the winner of second qualifying match will play final with the winner of the first qualifying match winner.

There are eight teams playing currently at IPL 2019 edition and maximum of four foreigner players can play in the playing squad of each team rest seven players will be Indian. Every team can get players in three ways: the annual player auction, trading players with other team or as a replacement for an unavailable player it has some of the rules like the squad must have 18 and 25 players with a maximum of 8 overseas players and salary cap of each squad cannot be more than 80 crores. And there is one more rule which like an under 19 player cannot play in IPL if he has not played first-class cricket.

Former Team:
IPL is very helpful for youngsters to play with the senior players from all the cricket nations and to show their talent to the world and to perform in front of the whole world and to play for their respective countries. IPL provides the best possible platform to all the players, including youngsters and to all the senior players which were not a part of their respective national teams got the chance to perform and get the place in the team. IPL has given so many players and they are currently playing for their respective countries.
In 2013, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals suspended by BCCI due to their role in match-fixing and betting scandals. Police arrested three cricketers S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan on the charges of spot-fixing and all three belonged to Rajasthan Royals. In another case, police arrested Vindu Dara Singh and Gurunath Meiyappan for batting and having a connection with bookies. Gurunath Meiyappan was CSK team principal at that time and due to this issue in 2015, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royal got banned for two years from IPL and were not allowed to play in IPL for two years and the ban was lifted in 2018.
After two years in 2015 July, S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were not found guilty by the Patiala High Court and cleared of all the charges, but in January 2016, BCCI banned Ankeet Chandila for life from all forms of cricket. Sreesanth also got banned by the BCCI for life, but in March 2019, the Supreme Court lifted the ban given by the BCCI.
Expansion and Termination:
In 2010, It was announced that two new teams Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala will be added in the fourth season in 2011 and after one year Kochi Tuskers Kerala was terminated due to breaching the BCCI terms and conditions.
In 2012 BCCI announced that Deccan Chargers will be eliminated and after some on month owner was replaced by Sun TV Network through an auction and team named as Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Pune Warriors India due to financial issues with the BCCI withdrew from IPL in 2013 and then it was terminated by the BCCI in the same year.
